@xtinguish - recorded and encoded at 720p. How do you encode yours? Oh wait... you haven't contributed anything here, have you. I also notice that the only comment I have gotten on any of my posts in the last two weeks is a complaint. It takes a lot of work to rip, edit, encode and even post these things and it SUCKS when everyone is so damn ungrateful. I'm done wasting my bandwidth.
Thanks!! Love these movies.
Awesome movies Solstars thx heaps man :)
@xtinguish - No worries. So many like to bitch and not contribute. I apologize as you clearly aren't one of them.
Finally a decent copy of the original movie! Thanks for rip and upload!
I made the mistake of assuming the FPS specs were incorrect when I decided to download these files, because there's no such thing as a standard 59.94 FPS for any video or movie format. Film is 23.976, Video is 29.97, and PAL is 25 FPS. 59.94 is exactly double the video 29.97 FPS standard, and it was ripped from TV, so I figured that was the actual FPS. Nope, these were truly ripped to an inexplicable 59.94 FPS, doubling the file size of each movie for no reason, and doubling the CPU power required to play these videos. You can't even re-encode them with Handbrake to a lower correct FPS or you get the expected stuttering effect (I tried).
Setting aside the incorrect FPS and huge file sizes, the first movie is true 720p HD and the video quality is pretty good, but not great. The second movie is NOT full HD. Looks like it was either a slightly up-res'd SD rip, or a down-res'd HD rip for whatever crazy reason. There's no such thing as a 928x528, 720P widescreen movie. All widescreen 720p movies are 1280(horizontal) and 720(vertical), unless it's letterboxed and ripped without the black bars, in which case the vertical resolution can be as low as 528 (2.35AR), but the horizontal resolution is never below 1280 unless it's an old 4:3 full screen movie, like Gone With The Wind etc.. Although the second movies is not full 720p HD resolution and the FPS is incorrect, the quality is still very good though. Audio quality of both movies is good.
To sum up, if you don't mind the incorrect specs and overly large file sizes, these are currently the best quality copies of these movies I've seen online to date. Hopefully proper HDTV rips will be online someday, since there are no blu-ray copies of these movies on the horizon.
Thanks for the upload. With all of the faults it's still appreciated!

59.94 fps is what Dish Network sends their video at (as well as most any set top box HD delivery). The can generally be encoded at 29.97fps, but if there is even a single frame error the encode will fail. I always encode at 23.97 where possible, but that couldn't be done for these.
The 59.94 fps is HD standard on almost all set top boxes because you can otherwise get jerky video. 59fps guarantees fluid smooth video during fast motion shots. The downside is that your equipment must be robust enough to play it back at that high speed.
It is also a misnomer that double fps doubles file size - this is just not true. Encoding this movie at 23.976 would be the exact file size at the current encode at 59.94, as the frames aren't encoded into the video twice, they are just doubled during playback for smoother motion. This is how Dish runs a movie recorded at 23.97fps at 59.94 - it's really just the encoding that changes, not the size.
As to quality, the encode her in an A/B comparison of the original is almost identical. The video feed from satellite and cable is already compressed, so the quality will never be better than what I receive. I agree that the quality on some of the satellite networks movies are not up to par (especially the older ones). Even at 1080i, there are still many compression artifacts in the original video.
This is the absolute best encode that could be achieved given the source material.

Thanks solstars! Nice catch on an under-rated pair.

I have been looking for these a very long time, and was very happy to finally find them. Thanks a lot, Solstars!! =)
